Teaching Assistant

Job Description

A welcoming secondary SEND provision in Towcester is seeking a committed SEND Teaching Assistant to join their team full‑time from September. In this role, you support students with a range of additional needs, helping them access learning, regulate emotions and build confidence throughout the school day. You play an essential part in creating a calm, structured and predictable environment where pupils feel safe, understood and ready to engage.

You’ll work closely with teachers and the SEND team, supporting pupils both in lessons and during targeted interventions. You adapt activities, provide clear guidance and use consistent routines to help students stay focused and settled. You observe behaviour, recognise triggers and respond with patience and clarity, contributing to personalised support plans that promote academic, social and emotional progress.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting SEND learners across KS3 and KS4
  • Helping pupils regulate, stay engaged and access learning
  • Adapting tasks and instructions to meet individual needs
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and emotional development
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and pastoral staff
  • Maintaining a safe, structured and supportive environment

 

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEND
  • Understanding of ASD, ADHD, SEMH or communication needs
  • A calm, consistent and patient approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Full‑time availability Monday–Friday from September
  • Interest in SEND roles in Towcester
