Teaching Assistant – Reception/KS1

Job Description

Begin a rewarding role as a dedicated teaching assistant supporting Reception and KS1 pupils in a warm, welcoming Coventry primary school. From your first day, you’ll help create a calm, structured and engaging environment where young learners feel confident, supported and ready to grow. As a result, you’ll build strong relationships and play a key role in early learning and development.

Throughout each day, you’ll move confidently between phonics, early maths, guided reading and play‑based activities. In addition, you’ll support pupils who need extra guidance, helping them stay focused, settled and included in classroom routines. At the same time, you’ll work closely with the class teacher and wider staff team to deliver age‑appropriate learning that sparks curiosity and builds independence. Furthermore, you’ll contribute to a positive, nurturing atmosphere that helps children feel secure and ready to learn. Ultimately, your presence will make a direct and meaningful impact on pupils during their most formative years.

Key Responsibilities of a Teaching Assistant – Reception/KS1

  • Supporting Reception and KS1 pupils during lessons, group work and play
  • Helping deliver phonics, early literacy and early maths activities
  • Providing 1:1 or small‑group support for pupils who need additional help
  • Encouraging positive behaviour, confidence and independence
  • Assisting with classroom routines, transitions and organisation
  • Working closely with teachers and support staff to meet learning needs
  • Creating warm, positive interactions that build trust and engagement
  • Contributing to a safe, inclusive and stimulating learning environment

What We’re Looking For

  • SEND experience or strong classroom experience in EYFS/KS1
  • A patient, proactive and nurturing approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Confidence supporting early learners aged 4–7
  • Part‑time or full‑time availability, Monday–Friday
  • Readiness to start immediately as a teaching assistant
