Teaching Assistant – SEND

About the role

A warm and inclusive primary school is looking for a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to support pupils in Year 1. The role involves working with children who require additional support, both 1:1 and in small groups, helping them access learning, build confidence and develop key early‑years skills.

This is a great opportunity for someone who is patient, nurturing and confident supporting young learners with a range of needs.

Requirements

• Strong SEND experience
• Experience working in a primary school (EYFS or KS1 preferred)
• Confident supporting small groups and 1:1
• Understanding of early phonics, early maths and play‑based learning
• A calm, positive and consistent approach
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to follow teacher direction and use initiative
• Commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing

Day‑to‑day duties

• Supporting Year 1 pupils with SEND needs
• Running small‑group interventions and targeted activities
• Helping pupils stay engaged, regulated and ready to learn
• Assisting with phonics, early literacy and numeracy
• Using positive behaviour strategies
• Working closely with the class teacher and SENDCo
• Contributing to a safe, inclusive and nurturing classroom

Salary is dependent on experience, training, or qualifications. The minimum experience, training, or qualifications required for this position are recent school-based experience (within the last 5 years within a school that teaches the British Curriculum) and/or care-based experience within the last 5 years.
