Teaching Assistant – SEND

Job Description

A dedicated teaching assistant – SEND , is needed to support pupils with a range of SEND needs in a welcoming school in Rugby. This role is ideal for someone who brings patience, consistency and confidence when supporting children who require additional help with communication, emotional regulation, learning or behaviour. As a teaching assistant, you will play a key role in helping pupils feel safe, understood and ready to learn each day.

Altogether, the school is looking for a teaching assistant who has genuine SEND experience and can make an immediate impact. You will work closely with teachers, SENCOs and support staff to deliver personalised strategies, adapt activities and build strong relationships with pupils who may need extra reassurance or structure. This is a rewarding opportunity for a teaching assistant who thrives in a supportive, inclusive environment.

 

Key Responsibilities of a teaching Assistant – SEND

  • Providing 1:1 and small‑group support for pupils, especially those with SEND
  • Supporting communication, emotional regulation and engagement in lessons
  • Using visual supports, routines and personalised strategies
  • Assisting teachers with planning, preparation and classroom organisation
  • Adapting activities to meet individual learning needs
  • Encouraging independence, confidence and positive behaviour
  • Building strong, supportive relationships with pupils and also staff

 

What We’re Looking For

  • SEND experience is essential
  • Classroom experience is desired, specifically SEND support
  • Teaching Assistant qualification is desired, but not essential
  • A calm, patient and nurturing approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Reliability and commitment to full‑time work
  • Ability to start immediately as a teaching assistant, however start dates can be discussed.
