Teaching Assistant – year 1

Job Description

Are you a supportive, enthusiastic Teaching Assistant with experience in Year 1 and a passion for helping children with SEND thrive?A friendly and inclusive primary school in Leamington Spa is looking for a dedicated Year 1 Teaching Assistant to join their team as soon as possible. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys working with younger pupils, brings a nurturing approach and is confident supporting children with additional needs.

 

About the Role

You will be working within a Year 1 classroom, supporting the class teacher with daily learning activities and providing additional help to pupils who require extra guidance. The role includes supporting children with SEND, helping them stay engaged, regulating emotions when needed and contributing to a calm, positive learning environment.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting pupils in Year 1 during lessons, group work and activities
  • Providing targeted support for children with SEND
  • Assisting the class teacher with planning, preparation and classroom routines
  • Helping pupils develop confidence, independence and positive learning habits
  • Creating a warm, inclusive and well‑organised classroom environment

 

What We’re Looking For

  • SEND experience is essential
  • Level 2 or Level 3 TA qualification is highly desirable
  • Experience working in a primary classroom, ideally KS1
  • A patient, proactive and nurturing approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Commitment to full‑time, Monday–Friday work

Salary is dependent on experience, training, or qualifications. The minimum experience, training, or qualifications required for this position are recent school-based experience (within the last 5 years within a school that teaches the British Curriculum) and/or care-based experience within the last 5 years.
