1:1 Teaching Assistant – Year 2 – Primary School, Walsall

Start date: September 2026

Location: Walsall

Rate of Pay: £93 – £100 per day

Zest Education is working with a warm and inclusive primary school in Walsall to recruit a committed Year 2 1:1 Teaching Assistant. The school is seeking someone who can begin in September and support a child throughout the first half term, with the potential for the role to continue.

This friendly school is known for its nurturing ethos and strong community values. Staff work collaboratively to create a positive, engaging environment where children feel safe, supported, and excited to learn. The leadership team is proactive in promoting staff wellbeing, teamwork, and professional development.

The Role:

You will work on a 1:1 basis with a Year 2 pupil, supporting them both inside and outside the classroom. Your role will involve helping the child access learning, developing their confidence, and ensuring they feel secure during the transition into Key Stage 1. You’ll work closely with the class teacher to adapt activities, provide emotional reassurance, and help the child build positive routines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored 1:1 support to a Year 2 pupil with additional learning needs.
  • Assist with phonics, early reading, writing, and number work.
  • Help the child settle into Year 2 routines and expectations.
  • Encourage positive behaviour, independence, and emotional wellbeing.
  • Work collaboratively with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals.
  • Contribute to a calm, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Holds a Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning (or equivalent) – preferred.
  • Has experience supporting children in EYFS or KS1, ideally in a 1:1 or SEN capacity.
  • Brings patience, empathy, and a warm, encouraging approach.
  • Communicates clearly and works effectively as part of a team.
  • Is adaptable, proactive, and able to build strong relationships with young children.

What Zest Education Offers:

  • A competitive daily rate based on experience and qualifications.
  • Ongoing support from experienced, friendly consultants.
  • Access to local roles across Walsall and surrounding areas.
  • Opportunities for professional development and career progression.

If you’re passionate about supporting young children and want to make a meaningful impact in a Year 2 classroom, we’d love to hear from you.
