SEND Teaching Assistant

Job Description

Are you currently looking for a rewarding opportunity working with students with special education requirements? Zest is currently recruiting for a full-time SEND Teaching Assistant to start as soon as possible on behalf of a school based in Nuneaton for the remainder of the academic year.

This school caters for students between the ages of 11yo-19yo with learning difficulties and disabilities. The ideal SEND Teaching Assistant will have experience working with students with a range of special education requirements including communication, interaction and sensory impairment difficulties or have a similar experience in a different setting.

 

Responsibilities of the SEND Teaching Assistant role:

  • Using alternative communication methods, such as visual aids or sign language when interacting with the students
  • Helping students to develop their communication skills
  • Creating, modifying and implementing strategies to minimise sensory overload in the classroom
  • Working 1:1 or in small groups with students to assist with specific learning needs
  • Working closely with other multi-agency professionals, including special education teachers, therapists, and support staff

 

Requirements of the SEND Teaching Assistant role:

  • Must be an experienced British Sign Language (BSL) communicator
  • Experience in supporting students with interaction, communication, and sensory difficulties is required
  • Patience and empathy for the students and their individual needs
  • Ability to work effectively with teachers, therapists, and other support staff
  • Effective communication and strong interpersonal skills

Salary is dependent on experience, training, or qualifications. The minimum experience, training, or qualifications required for this position are recent school-based experience (within the last 5 years within a school that teaches the British Curriculum) and/or care-based experience within the last 5 years.
