Teaching assistant – Level 3

Job Description

Position: Full-time 1:1 Teaching Assistant
Student Year Group: Year 2 (non-verbal child with additional needs)
Contract: Full academic year (term-time only—Sept 2025–July 2026)
Potential: Permanent role for the right candidate

 About the Role

  • Provide 1:1 support to a Year 2 child who is non-verbal, facilitating communication, access to the curriculum, and social interaction.

  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals to deliver targeted interventions.

  • Use and develop strategies such as visual timetables, Makaton, and sensory breaks to support the child’s needs.

  • Assist with personal care and emotional regulation when needed, ensuring a safe, inclusive environment.

 Ideal Candidate

  • Must have an NVQ Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent) 

  • Proven experience supporting non-verbal children with additional needs.

  • Strong grasp of communication-focused strategies and sensory interventions.

  • Patient, empathetic, adaptable, and keen to contribute to a diverse inner-city primary school community
