Teaching Assistant

Job Description

Teaching Assistant (1:1, Year 1 – Full-Time)

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated full-time 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a Year 1 pupil with complex Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This role offers a unique opportunity to make a real difference in a child’s educational journey through tailored support and personalised care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide attentive and compassionate one-to-one support to a Year 1 pupil with complex ASD needs.

  • Assist with access to the curriculum, differentiating tasks and adapting materials as needed.

  • Encourage independence, resilience, and confidence through positive reinforcement and structured routines.

  • Collaborate closely with the class teacher, SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator), and external specialists (e.g. speech and language therapists) to plan and deliver effective interventions.

  • Monitor progress and contribute to observations, record-keeping, and personalised learning plans.

  • Promote social, emotional, and communication development in alignment with the pupil’s Individual Education Plan (IEP).

  • Support inclusion by facilitating the pupil’s engagement in group activities and peer interactions where appropriate.
