Job Description

Job Title: Teaching Assistant (Multiple Posts) – Immediate Start
Location: Walsall (SEND / Alternative Provision School)
Hours: Full‑time and Part‑time positions available – Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm

About the School

This school are an Alternative Provision free school in Walsall, serving students aged 13–18, many of whom have struggled in mainstream education.

The Role

We are seeking dedicated and passionate Teaching Assistants to join our team immediately. There will be both full‑time and part‑time roles. You will work under the guidance of teachers and senior staff, helping to deliver learning and support programmes that meet the individual needs of our students.

Main Responsibilities

  • Support teaching and learning in class, including working with small groups or one‑to‑one, particularly with students with SEND or behavioural/emotional needs.
  • Assist in adapting learning materials to meet differing needs, ensuring inclusion and access to the curriculum.
  • Help maintain a calm, structured learning environment, supporting behaviour management in line with school policies.
  • Support pastoral care, promoting self‑esteem, self‑control, and positive personal growth.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, Learning Coaches, SENDCo, and other staff to monitor progress and contribute to student development.

Person Specification / Desired Qualities

  • Experience working with young people, ideally in a SEND, alternative provision, or challenging educational setting.
  • Good communication skills, resilience, empathy, and patience.
  • Ability to adapt to different learning needs and behaviour challenges.
  • Reliable, flexible, a strong team‑player.
