Teaching Assistant

Job Description

We are currently seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Teaching Assistants to join a specialist SEN school based in Harborne. The school supports children and young people with a wide range of special educational needs, including autism, learning difficulties, speech and language needs, and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support pupils with special educational needs in the classroom and during other school activities
  • Assist teachers in delivering a differentiated and accessible curriculum
  • Work 1:1 or in small groups to meet individual learning, behavioural and emotional needs
  • Help manage and support behaviour in a positive, consistent way
  • Provide support with personal care if required
  • Encourage the development of pupils’ confidence, independence and communication skills
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to progress monitoring

Person Specification

  • Experience supporting children or young people with special educational needs (in a school or care/support setting)
  • A calm, patient and nurturing approach
  • Good communication skills and ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
  • Experience with specific needs such as autism, SEMH, speech and language difficulties
  • Relevant training or qualifications (e.g. Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, Team Teach, Makaton, etc.)
