Learning Support Assistant – SEN (ASD)

Job Description

Learning Support Assistant – Specialist SEN School (West Sussex)

Full-time Monday to Friday
Pay £90 to £100 per day, depending on experience
Permanent contract; £22,072 (negotiable depending on experience and / OR qualifications)

Zest Education is supporting a well-established independent special school in rural West Sussex in their search for a dedicated Learning Support Assistant (LSA). This school provides a nurturing, structured environment for academically able autistic pupils with additional needs such as ADHD and social communication difficulties.

This is a temporary-to-permanent role: your probation will be completed via Zest Education before moving onto a full-time contract directly with the school.

About the School

  • An independent SEN provision funded by the local authority

  • Catering for pupils from Year 3 through Post-16

  • Supporting around 100 students, with a maximum of 6 learners per class

  • Set in a beautiful, peaceful rural setting

  • Accredited by the National Autistic Society

  • Rated ‘Good’ in their most recent Ofsted inspection

  • Purpose-built with specialist classrooms, therapy/intervention spaces, vocational learning rooms, sports facilities and calm breakout areas

The provision places a strong emphasis on creating a structured, autism-friendly learning environment designed to help every student achieve their full potential.

The Role:

  • Supporting pupils in a variety of classroom settings

  • Working 1:1 or with small groups as directed

  • Assisting with the delivery of planned learning activities

  • Promoting a calm, supportive and positive learning environment

  • Contributing to the overall ethos and aims of the school

Previous SEN or mainstream experience is desirable but not essential. What matters most is the right mindset—patience, empathy, resilience and a genuine interest in supporting young people with additional needs.

Working Hours

  • Mon, Tue, Thu: 8:30am – 4:30pm

  • Wed: 8:30am – 5:00pm

  • Fri: 8:30am – 4:00pm

This role offers a full gross annual salary, not a pro-rata/term-time-only amount, unlike many mainstream school LSA roles.

Why This Role?

  • Small class sizes = meaningful, personal impact

  • Supportive, welcoming team

  • A serene, rural campus

  • Modern, autism-friendly learning environment

  • Clear development pathways and ongoing CPD

  • The opportunity to truly change young people’s lives
