SEND Teaching Assistant

Job Description

Zest Education is currently recruiting a full-time SEND Teaching Assistant to work in a mainstream school in Swadlincote, supporting pupils within a dedicated SEND hub.

This role is ideal for a resilient, patient, and committed Teaching Assistant who has experience supporting children with additional needs, particularly those with behavioural needs. The children can display challenging behaviour, including occasional aggression, so experience in this area is essential.


The Role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Work within the school’s SEND hub, supporting pupils with additional needs

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support

  • Support children with behavioural and emotional needs

  • Implement behaviour support strategies and positive interventions

  • Help pupils regulate emotions and access learning

  • Work closely with the SENDCo and wider school staff

  • Promote a safe, calm, and inclusive learning environment


The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience supporting children with SEND, particularly behavioural needs

  • Is confident managing challenging behaviour, including de-escalation techniques

  • Is calm, resilient, and able to remain professional in difficult situations

  • Can build positive and trusting relationships with pupils

  • Works well as part of a team and follows behaviour support plans

  • Has relevant experience in schools, PRUs, or alternative provisions (desirable)

Salary is dependent on experience, training, or qualifications. The minimum experience, training, or qualifications required for this position are recent school-based experience (within the last 5 years within a school that teaches the British Curriculum) and/or care-based experience within the last 5 years.
