Primary Teacher – British Sign Language (BSL) Specialist

Location: South Birmingham/ Tyseley Contract: Full‑time Start Date: September

We are working with a warm, inclusive primary school seeking a skilled Primary Teacher with strong BSL knowledge to support pupils with hearing impairments and communication needs. This is a fantastic opportunity for a teacher who is passionate about accessible learning and creating a truly inclusive classroom.

The Role

  • Teach engaging, well‑structured lessons across KS1 or KS2
  • Use British Sign Language (BSL) to support communication, understanding and participation
  • Adapt teaching to meet individual needs, including pupils with hearing impairments
  • Work closely with the SENCO, support staff and external specialists
  • Create a positive, nurturing learning environment where every child feels valued
  • Contribute to wider school life and uphold strong safeguarding practice

About You

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Confident using BSL (Level 2+ preferred)
  • Experience supporting pupils with hearing impairments or communication needs
  • Strong behaviour management and a calm, patient approach
  • Ability to differentiate learning and build strong relationships with pupils
  • A reflective, proactive practitioner committed to inclusive education
