Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant

Job Description

We are seeking a compassionate, patient, and enthusiastic Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant to support pupils with additional learning needs at a welcoming and inclusive school in Northfield.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with SEN.
  • Assist children with a range of additional needs, including Autism (ASC), ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and social, emotional, and mental health needs (SEMH).
  • Support the class teacher in delivering engaging learning activities.
  • Help implement and monitor individual education plans (IEPs).
  • Encourage pupil independence, confidence, and social development.
  • Foster a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.

What We’re Looking For

Essential:

  • Experience working with children or young people.
  • A caring, patient, and empathetic approach.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience as an SEN Teaching Assistant.
  • Knowledge of Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, or SEMH.
  • Relevant qualifications in childcare, education, or special educational needs.
  • Team Teach, Makaton, or personal care experience.
