Teaching Assistant

Job Description

Location: Handsworth

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a supportive Teaching Assistant to start immediately. This Teaching Assistant position will involve working with children and young people aged 7 to 17 who have Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and associated learning needs. Many pupils have experienced significant challenges in previous educational settings, including anxiety, sensory processing difficulties, social communication needs, emotional regulation challenges, and disrupted learning. The successful Teaching Assistant will help create a calm, structured, and nurturing environment where pupils feel safe, understood, and able to re-engage with education.

The Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Support pupils with autism, communication difficulties, and associated learning needs.
  • Help implement individual Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and personalised learning programmes.
  • Adapt learning resources and classroom activities to meet a range of abilities and learning styles.
  • Support pupils with sensory processing needs, emotional regulation, and social development.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships that help pupils develop confidence and resilience.
  • Encourage independence, life skills, and positive engagement in learning.
  • Work closely with teachers, therapists, families, and other professionals to achieve the best possible outcomes for pupils.

This Teaching Assistant role is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting children and young people with autism to overcome barriers to learning and achieve both academic and personal success.
