Classroom Support Assistant

Join a committed SEND team as a classroom support assistant providing essential support to pupils with a wide range of additional needs. From your first day, you’ll help create a calm, structured and nurturing environment where learners feel safe, understood and ready to progress. As a result, you’ll build strong, trusting relationships and play a vital role in helping pupils access learning with confidence.

Throughout each day, you’ll support pupils with SEND, SEMH, ASC, non‑verbal communication needs and physical disabilities. In addition, you’ll use tailored strategies that promote emotional regulation, communication and independence. At the same time, you’ll work closely with teachers, therapists and the wider SEND team to ensure each pupil receives the right support at the right moment. Furthermore, you’ll adapt quickly as needs shift, maintaining patience, structure and clarity. Ultimately, your full‑time presence will make a direct and meaningful impact on pupils who rely on consistent, skilled adults to help them thrive.

Key Responsibilities of a Classroom Support Assistant 

• Supporting SEND learners through 1:1 and small‑group work
• Assisting pupils with SEMH, ASC, non‑verbal communication and physical disabilities
• Helping pupils stay engaged, focused and emotionally regulated
• Supporting sensory needs, communication tools and personalised learning plans
• Encouraging independence, resilience and positive behaviour
• Assisting with mobility, physical support or equipment where required
• Working closely with teachers, therapists and support staff
• Contributing to a safe, inclusive and predictable learning environmen

What We’re Looking For

• Strong experience supporting SEND, SEMH, ASC or physical disabilities
• A patient, proactive and nurturing approach
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• Confidence supporting pupils with complex or varied needs
• Full‑time availability, Monday–Friday
• Readiness to start immediately as a classroom support assistant

Salary is dependent on experience, training, or qualifications. The minimum experience, training, or qualifications required for this position are recent school-based experience (within the last 5 years within a school that teaches the British Curriculum) and/or care-based experience within the last 5 years.
