SEMH Teacher – Primary

Full‑time • Immediate/September Start • Birmingham

About the Role

We are seeking a compassionate, resilient and skilled SEMH Teacher to support pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs within a nurturing primary setting. This role is ideal for a teacher who can provide stability, emotional regulation and consistent boundaries, while delivering engaging, accessible learning tailored to individual needs.

You will work closely with the SENCO, behaviour lead and wider pastoral team to create a safe, predictable and trusting environment where pupils can thrive both academically and emotionally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver individualised learning tailored to SEMH needs
  • Build trusting, secure relationships with pupils
  • Use trauma‑informed practice, co‑regulation and de‑escalation strategies
  • Implement behaviour plans with consistency and empathy
  • Support emotional regulation through routines, visuals and calm communication
  • Work collaboratively with staff, parents and external agencies
  • Track progress and adapt approaches to meet changing needs
  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive school culture

What We’re Looking For

  • A qualified teacher (ECTs considered with strong SEMH experience)
  • Experience supporting pupils with SEMH, behaviour needs or trauma
  • A calm, patient and emotionally intelligent approach
  • Strong understanding of attachment, ACEs and regulation strategies
  • Ability to remain consistent, positive and solution‑focused
  • Someone who can create a safe, structured and nurturing environment
