SEN Teacher

Job Description

A large, inclusive primary school in South Birmingham is seeking a committed SEN Teacher to join their team from April 2026. The school has a strong reputation for nurturing pupils with additional needs and offers a well‑structured support system for staff working within its specialist provision.

The role involves leading learning for a small group of pupils with a range of needs, including ASD, SEMH, and communication difficulties. The focus is on creating a calm, predictable environment where pupils can build confidence, regulate emotions, and make steady academic progress.

Key responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver tailored lessons aligned with EHCP targets and individual learning plans.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils who may require additional emotional and behavioural support.
  • Work closely with the SENCO, teaching assistants, and external professionals to ensure consistent provision.
  • Support pupils with routines, emotional regulation, and behaviour strategies.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to reviews, assessments, and multi‑agency meetings.
  • Create a safe, structured classroom environment that promotes independence and engagement.

Candidate profile

  • QTS or equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Experience working with SEN pupils, particularly those with ASD or SEMH.
  • Strong behaviour management and the ability to remain calm and consistent under pressure.
  • A reflective, child‑centred approach with a commitment to inclusive practice.
  • Confidence working collaboratively within a supportive team.

What the school and Zest offer

  • A welcoming, well‑resourced environment with small class sizes.
  • A supportive leadership team with a strong focus on staff wellbeing.
  • Access to ongoing CPD and specialist SEN training.
  • A stable, long‑term role for the full academic year.
