Are you currently looking for full-time work in the special education sector? Zest is currently recruiting for a full-time SEND Classroom Support Assistant to join a school located in Birmingham for the remainder of the academic year to start as soon as possible.

This school caters for students between the ages of 11yo-19yo with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The ideal SEND Classroom Support Assistant will be confident working with students with the above requirements.


Responsibilities of the SEND Classroom Support Assistant role:

  • Supporting students in understanding and completing classroom assignments
  • Providing 1:1 or small group support to students to meet their individualised learning needs
  • Collaborating with teachers and behaviour specialists to implement behaviour intervention plans
  • Recording and maintaining data on students’ progress and behaviour


Requirements of the SEND Classroom Support Assistant role:

  • Knowledge of the characteristics, challenges, and learning styles associated with ASD, SLD, MLD, and SEMH is favourable
  • Ability to adapt to changing situations and modify support strategies as needed
  • Patience and empathy when supporting the students
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
