Job Description

Zest Education is currently recruiting for a dedicated and resilient SEND Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming mainstream primary school in Burton upon Trent. This is a full-time opportunity starting in September, supporting pupils within Key Stage 1 who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

This rewarding role is ideal for a Teaching Assistant who is passionate about helping children overcome barriers to learning and can provide the consistency, patience, and encouragement needed to help pupils thrive within a mainstream school setting.

About the Role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with KS1 pupils who require additional support with their emotional wellbeing, behaviour, and engagement in learning. You will play a crucial role in helping pupils manage their emotions, develop positive relationships, and access the curriculum successfully.

Working as part of a supportive team, you will collaborate with teachers, the SENDCO, and other support staff to implement strategies that enable pupils to achieve both academically and personally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide tailored support to KS1 pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Build strong, positive relationships that promote trust and engagement.
  • Support pupils both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Implement behaviour and emotional regulation strategies.
  • Encourage positive social interactions and independence.
  • Assist with the delivery of targeted interventions and learning activities.
  • Work closely with teaching staff to monitor progress and wellbeing.
  • Help create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful applicant will:

  • Have experience working with children with SEND, SEMH, or behavioural needs.
  • Be calm, patient, and resilient.
  • Have strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills.
  • Be passionate about supporting vulnerable pupils to reach their full potential.
  • Have excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Be able to adapt their approach to meet individual pupil needs.
  • Hold a relevant Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable but not essential).

Experience in education, youth work, support work, care settings, or similar roles will be highly beneficial.
