Job Description

Zest Education is currently recruiting for a dedicated and nurturing SEND Teaching Assistant to join a supportive primary school in Lichfield. This is a full-time opportunity to start as soon as possible, supporting pupils within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

The role will initially run until December 2026, with the potential for extension for the right candidate.

About the Role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with young children who have additional needs, helping them access learning, develop communication skills, and successfully engage with the school environment.

The school is looking for a compassionate and patient individual who can provide consistent support throughout the school day. You will work alongside the class teacher and SEND team to deliver tailored support that meets each child’s individual needs and encourages positive progress.

As part of this role, you will also be required to support with personal care when needed. Therefore, candidates must be comfortable carrying out personal care duties in a professional, dignified, and supportive manner.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support children with SEND needs within an EYFS setting.
  • Help pupils access learning through play-based and structured activities.
  • Support communication, social interaction, and emotional development.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Assist with personal care where required.
  • Implement individual support strategies and routines.
  • Work closely with teachers, support staff, and parents.
  • Promote independence and celebrate pupil achievements.
  • Help create a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment.

  • Have experience working with children with SEND needs.
  • Be comfortable supporting personal care requirements.
  • Demonstrate patience, empathy, and resilience.
  • Have a nurturing approach and a passion for helping children succeed.
  • Be confident working as part of a team.
  • Have excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Be adaptable and willing to support a range of pupil needs.
  • Hold a relevant Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable but not essential).

Salary is dependent on experience, training, or qualifications. The minimum experience, training, or qualifications required for this position are recent school-based experience (within the last 5 years within a school that teaches the British Curriculum) and/or care-based experience within the last 5 years.
