SEND Teaching Assistant

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored 1:1 and small group support to pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.
  • Work closely with teachers and the school’s SENDCo to implement Education, Health, and Care Plans.
  • Support children in developing academic, social, and emotional skills through engaging and differentiated learning activities, creating sensory circuits and helping children regulate.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages confidence and independence.
  • Communicate effectively with staff & parents to ensure consistent support for each child.
  • Assist with classroom preparation, behaviour management strategies, and progress monitoring.

 

Qualifications and Skills Required:

  • A recognised Teaching Assistant qualification (Level 2 or above) is preferred but not essential.
  • Previous experience supporting children with SEND in an educational setting is desirable.
  • A patient, empathetic, and caring nature with a genuine passion for helping children thrive.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • The ability to remain calm and flexible in challenging situations while maintaining a positive approach to learning.

Salary is dependent on experience, training, or qualifications. The minimum experience, training, or qualifications required for this position are recent school-based experience (within the last 5 years within a school that teaches the British Curriculum) and/or care-based experience within the last 5 years.
