Job Description

Location: Redditch

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a supportive Teaching Assistant to start immediately. This Teaching Assistant position will involve working with children and young people who require an alternative approach to education due to Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, trauma-related experiences, anxiety, emotional regulation difficulties, behavioural challenges, and barriers to learning. Many pupils may have experienced disrupted education and require a highly nurturing, structured, and therapeutic environment to help them rebuild confidence and successfully re-engage with learning.

The Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Support pupils with SEMH needs, anxiety, trauma-related behaviours, and emotional regulation difficulties.
  • Help implement individual learning, behaviour, and pastoral support plans tailored to each pupil’s needs.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships that help pupils feel safe, valued, and supported.
  • Adapt classroom resources and activities to encourage engagement and academic progress.
  • Support pupils in developing resilience, self-esteem, social skills, and positive coping strategies.
  • Encourage positive behaviour, attendance, and participation in learning opportunities.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, families, and external professionals to achieve the best possible outcomes for pupils.

This Teaching Assistant role is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting young people who have become disengaged from mainstream education and helping them achieve success both academically and personally.

What You’ll Need

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND, SEMH needs, behavioural challenges, or within an alternative provision setting.
  • A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A team-focused attitude and willingness to learn.
  • The ability to remain calm, consistent, and supportive in challenging situations.
  • Motivation to succeed as a Teaching Assistant and make a lasting difference in pupils’ lives.

Why Apply?

  • Immediate start available.
  • Opportunity to make a meaningful impact every day.
  • Supportive and welcoming staff team.
  • Ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
  • A rewarding Teaching Assistant role within a specialist educational setting.
