Teaching Assistant – Year 6

Job Description

Job Title: Year 6 Teaching Assistant (1:1 Support)

Contract: Full-time
Duration: Until July 2026
Start Date: As soon as possible

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated, patient and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a boy in Year 6 with global developmental delay and speech and language needs. This is a full-time role supporting the pupil throughout the school day, working closely with the class teacher, SENCo and external professionals to help him access learning and develop confidence and independence.

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting learning, communication, emotional regulation and social development during this important transition year.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide consistent 1:1 support to a pupil with global delay and speech and language needs

  • Support learning across the Year 6 curriculum, adapting tasks where appropriate

  • Implement strategies recommended by speech and language therapists and other professionals

  • Encourage communication, language development and social interaction

  • Support emotional regulation, behaviour and wellbeing

  • Promote independence while providing appropriate guidance and reassurance

  • Work collaboratively with the class teacher, SENCo and wider staff team

  • Contribute to monitoring progress and maintaining relevant records
