Job Description

Zest are seeking a motivated, caring, and enthusiastic Year 5 Teaching Assistant to join our friendly and supportive primary school in Castle Vale. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about helping children achieve their full potential and supporting their learning journey during this important stage of Key Stage 2.

Working closely with the Year 5 class teacher, you will play a key role in creating a positive, engaging, and inclusive learning environment where all pupils are encouraged to succeed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support teaching and learning within the Year 5 classroom.
  • Work with individual pupils and small groups to reinforce learning and accelerate progress.
  • Assist with the preparation of lessons, resources, and classroom displays.
  • Support pupils’ development in literacy, numeracy, and wider curriculum subjects.
  • Promote positive behaviour and help maintain a purposeful learning environment.
  • Provide additional support for pupils with varying learning needs.
  • Assist with assessment activities and pupil progress monitoring.
  • Support the wider life of the school, including educational visits and extracurricular activities where appropriate.

The Successful Candidate Will Have

  • Experience working with primary-aged children, preferably within Key Stage 2.
  • A positive, patient, and nurturing approach.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents.
  • A commitment to supporting children’s academic, social, and emotional development.
  • A flexible and proactive attitude towards school life.
  • A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is desirable but not essential.

Salary is dependent on experience, training, or qualifications. The minimum experience, training, or qualifications required for this position are recent school-based experience (within the last 5 years within a school that teaches the British Curriculum) and/or care-based experience within the last 5 years.
