Year 6 Teacher

Job Description

Zest Education is currently recruiting for an experienced and motivated Year 6 Teacher to join a supportive primary school in Burton upon Trent. This is an excellent 3-day-per-week opportunity, working Wednesday to Friday, covering a maternity leave position.

The role is available to start as soon as possible and offers the opportunity to work with a well-established Year 6 class during a pivotal stage of their primary education.

About the Role

As the Year 6 Class Teacher, you will take full responsibility for teaching the class across your three working days, ensuring pupils remain engaged, challenged, and supported in their learning.

The school is looking for a confident and capable teacher who can quickly build positive relationships, maintain high expectations, and continue driving pupil progress. As Year 6 is a key year group, the successful candidate will need a strong understanding of the Upper Key Stage 2 curriculum and experience preparing pupils for the transition to secondary school.

Furthermore, you will join a dedicated team of staff who work collaboratively to provide the best possible outcomes for every child.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons to a Year 6 class.
  • Monitor, assess, and track pupil progress.
  • Prepare pupils for end-of-Key Stage 2 expectations.
  • Differentiate learning to meet the needs of all pupils.
  • Maintain high standards of behaviour and achievement.
  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Work closely with colleagues, support staff, and parents.
  • Contribute to the wider life of the school.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful applicant will:

  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Have experience teaching within Upper Key Stage 2, ideally Year 6.
  • Demonstrate strong classroom and behaviour management skills.
  • Have a secure knowledge of the Key Stage 2 curriculum.
  • Be organised, reliable, and professional.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils and colleagues.
  • Be committed to helping children achieve their full potential.

Applications are welcomed from experienced primary teachers with a proven track record of success in Key Stage 2.
