Learning Support Assistant (LSA)

Job Description

Zest Education have an exciting opportunity for a Learning Support Assistant to work within a special educational needs school located in Walsall. This is a full-time position due to begin ASAP.

About the school:

The school is dedicated to providing quality education to pupils aged between 5-18 years old who have additional needs. Catering to students with autism, speech, language and communication difficulties, as well as some behavioural issues. The goal is to create a nurturing and inclusive environment where every child can thrive and reach their full potential.

Job Responsibilities:

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting the students in their emotional and physical needs. You will work closely with them to assist their individual development and help them engage with the world around them. With small class groups, you will have the opportunity to focus on each child’s unique requirements, providing them with the best possible support and guidance.

Key Duties:

  • Provide one-to-one support to students with special educational needs
  • Assist in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for each child
  • Support students in their academic and personal growth
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment
  • Promote independence and social skills development
  • Collaborate with teachers and other professionals to ensure holistic care and progress

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children with additional needs is desirable
  • Understanding of autism, speech, language, and communication difficulties
  • Patience, empathy, and a nurturing nature
  • Ability to adapt and tailor support to individual needs
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Relevant qualifications in a related field (e.g., Teaching Assistant certification) are advantageous

Salary is dependent on experience, training, or qualifications. The minimum experience, training, or qualifications required for this position are recent school-based experience (within the last 5 years within a school that teaches the British Curriculum) and/or care-based experience within the last 5 years.
