Full-time Teaching Assistant

Job Description

Zest Education are currently recruiting for a full-time teaching assistant to work in a wonderful special educational needs school situated in Walsall. This position is due to start ASAP and will continue on a long term basis in to the new academic year. You will be required to work Monday to Friday, 8:30 to 15:30.

This school caters for students from the age of seven to eighteen who have a Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP). The school is designated for students with moderate learning difficulties; however, the majority of students have additional needs, including autism, speech and language difficulties and some behavioural issues. Due to the needs of the learners, the ideal candidate will have previous experience of supporting individuals with SEND.

The team here work hard to maintain a supportive and inclusive ethos across all areas of the school and put the children at the heart of what they do. All students are taught in small classes, the majority of which have teaching assistants, in addition to the teacher. So, you will be required to work with the students on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.

You will help prepare learning materials and support the teacher with classroom activities. You will take responsibility for their emotional and physical needs, supporting them to develop as individuals and engage with the world.

The role:

  • You will have previous experience working in a special educational needs school or in a care setting
  • This school follows the Team Teach behaviour management system so experience or knowledge of this would be advantageous
  • You will be joining a large staff team that provide a personalised learning experience for all students within the school

Salary is dependent on experience, training or qualifications. The minimum experience, training or qualifications required for this position are: Recent school-based experience (within the last 5 years, teaching within a school teaching the British Curriculum).
