Job Description

SEN Teaching Assistant – Full‑Time & Part‑Time (Walsall)

Start: September 2025
Hours: Monday–Friday, 08:30–15:30 (term‑time)
Contract: Full‑ and part‑time options available

About the School

Join a thriving special school supporting pupils aged 7–18 with EHCPs for moderate learning difficulties, many with additional needs such as autism, speech, language, communication, and social/emotional challenges. Students are taught in small classes, benefiting from a strong team of teaching assistants and staff trained in the Team Teach behaviour management system. Ofsted rated the school as Outstanding.

Your Role Will Include

  • Providing tailored support to individuals and small groups, aligned with EHCP outcomes
  • Supporting teachers in delivering an engaging, adapted curriculum
  • Implementing advanced behaviour strategies including Team Teach de-escalation techniques
  • Working alongside therapists (speech & language, physiotherapy), medical staff, and the wider multi-agency team
  • Assisting during break and lunch to promote independence and social skills
  • Monitoring and helping document pupil progress, and communicating with parents and carers

About You

  • You’re caring, patient, adaptable, and passionate about supporting children with SEN
  • You’re an excellent communicator, comfortable working in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment
  • Experience or interest in working with pupils with autism, communication needs, or SEMH
  • You’re committed to professional growth; training is strongly supported
  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain), and a strong commitment to safeguarding practices
