Job Description

Teacher – SEND Specialist School, Rugeley

Part‑Time or Full‑Time | Start: October 2025 | Permanent Opportunity Available

Are you a dedicated and compassionate educator experienced in working with pupils with autism and related learning needs?

We’re seeking an enthusiastic Teacher to join a specialist SEND school in the scenic Rugeley area offering flexible hours and the possibility to transition into a permanent position for the right candidate.

About The School

This is a specialist independent school supporting children and young people aged 5 to 19 with primary diagnoses of autism and moderate to severe learning difficulties. Situated in a peaceful rural Staffordshire setting, the school offers a structured, sensory-aware, and nurturing environment that values communication, emotional wellbeing, sensory integration, and life-skills development.

The Role

As a Teacher, you will:

  • Design and deliver individualised and inclusive lessons tailored to students with autism and learning difficulties.
  • Employ a sensory-responsive and multi‑modal teaching approach, supporting personal growth across communication, behaviour, emotional regulation, independence, and academic skills.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams including therapists and behaviour specialists—to deliver holistic, bespoke education.
  • Maintain a calm, structured, nurturing classroom environment, underpinned by trauma-informed principles and small class sizes.

About You

  • You hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and have recent experience teaching learners with SEND.
  • You are knowledgeable about autism, sensory needs, and differentiated learning strategies.
  • You bring empathy, patience, resilience, and a nurturing approach to support learners emotionally and academically.
  • You are committed to trauma-informed, multi-sensory education and thrive in a collaborative, values-driven setting.
  • You are prepared to undergo enhanced DBS and safeguarding checks in line with policy.
