1:1 Teaching Assistant

Job Description

Zest Education is recruiting for a dedicated and proactive 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a Year 1 learner at a warm and nurturing primary school in Tamworth. This is a fixed‑term role linked to an EHCP, working 25 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 2:30pm, term‑time only. The position is due to start ASAP.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about inclusive education and confident supporting children with communication and sensory needs.

About the Role

You will be providing specific 1:1 support for a Year 1 learner who has very limited communication skills and responds positively to music and outdoor learning. Your role will focus on helping the child access the curriculum, manage their daily routine and develop independence.

Key Responsibilities

  • 1:1 Support: Help the learner access classroom activities, manage transitions, use visual timetables and take sensory breaks to reduce anxiety.
  • Academic Support: Deliver daily 1:1 sessions in Phonics, Literacy and Numeracy, following adapted planning provided by the class teacher.
  • Social & Emotional Development: Support positive interactions during group work and break times, modelling communication and play skills.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the Class Teacher and SENCO to review IEPs, adapt resources and ensure the child’s needs are consistently met.

  • Confident using visual supports, sensory strategies and structured routines

Role Details

  • 25 hours per week, term‑time only
  • Monday–Friday, 9:00am – 2:30pm
  • Fixed‑term contract linked to an EHCP
  • Start date: ASAP
  • Closing date: 24th April
  • Interviews: 7th May 2026 (short turnaround)

Salary is dependent on experience, training, or qualifications. The minimum experience, training, or qualifications required for this position are recent school-based experience (within the last 5 years within a school that teaches the British Curriculum) and/or care-based experience within the last 5 years.
