1:1 Teaching Assistant – Early Years (Non-Verbal Child)

Job Description

Zest Education are proud to be working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Lichfield, who are looking to appoint a dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a non-verbal child in the Early Years Foundation Stage. This rewarding role is to start immediately and will be ongoing for the right person. This is a full-time, term-time role to start ASAP. The school is part of a supportive and caring community and is looking for someone who can become a long-term asset to their team.

About the Role:

The successful candidate will be working on a one-to-one basis with a non-verbal child, supporting them in all areas of their learning and development. You will play a vital role in helping the child to access the Early Years curriculum, develop their communication skills, and feel secure and supported within the classroom environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 support throughout the school day, both in and out of the classroom

  • Use alternative communication methods such as visual aids, Makaton, or PECS

  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and wider staff team

  • Build a trusting, supportive relationship with the child

  • Support with personal care if required

What We’re Looking For:

  • Previous experience working in Early Years or with SEND children

  • Knowledge of strategies to support non-verbal communication (desirable but not essential)

  • A nurturing, patient and empathetic approach

  • Strong teamwork and communication skills

  • A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs

Salary is dependent on experience, training, or qualifications. The minimum experience, training, or qualifications required for this position are recent school-based experience (within the last 5 years within a school that teaches the British Curriculum) and/or care-based experience within the last 5 years.
