Before & After School Club Manager

Job Description

Zest Education is recruiting for an enthusiastic and experienced Before & After School Club Manager to lead a well‑established wraparound care provision at a welcoming primary school in Burton. This is an interim role, starting ASAP, with an expected duration of up to one year.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about creating a safe, fun and nurturing environment for children aged 4–11, while leading a dedicated team and ensuring high‑quality provision every day.

Hours (Term Time Only)

  • Morning: 7:45am – 9:30am
  • Afternoon: 3:00pm – 6:00pm
  • Monday to Friday

🏫 About the Role

The club provides high‑quality wraparound care for primary-aged children and plays a vital role in supporting families and the wider school community. As Manager, you will oversee the daily running of the club, ensuring a safe, stimulating and inclusive environment where children can learn, play and thrive.

🎯 Main Purpose of the Role

  • Create a warm, safe and engaging setting that meets the needs of all children
  • Plan, deliver and evaluate EYFS‑aligned learning and play opportunities
  • Lead the wraparound care team and maintain strong relationships with families and school staff

🛠 Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the day‑to‑day running of the club
  • Deliver high‑quality play and care in line with EYFS and club policies
  • Lead, supervise and support staff, including deputies and play workers
  • Maintain strong communication with parents, carers, school staff and external agencies
  • Ensure safeguarding procedures are followed and act as Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)
  • Oversee staff training, DBS checks and policy updates
  • Liaise with Ofsted and support inspections
  • Manage administrative tasks including registers, incident logs, attendance and fee collection
  • Plan engaging activities that promote independence, creativity and social development
  • Provide reports to the club’s management committee
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory frameworks, including:
    • Employment law
    • Equality and anti‑discrimination legislation
    • Health & Safety requirements
    • Data protection (UK GDPR)
    • Duty of care obligations
  • Support smooth transitions during any future changes to the club’s management structure

🧒 Daily Duties Include

  • Planning and delivering fun, age‑appropriate activities
  • Escorting children safely between school and the club
  • Providing snacks and maintaining hygiene standards
  • Administering first aid when required
  • Setting up and clearing away equipment
  • Supervising staff and volunteers
  • Maintaining accurate records and communicating with families
  • Ensuring a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment

🎓 Required Qualifications & Training

The ideal candidate will hold (or be working towards):

  • NVQ Level 3 in Childcare, Learning & Development
  • Leadership & Management training
  • DSL Level 3
  • Child Protection / Safeguarding training
  • Safer Recruitment training
  • Level 2 qualifications in Maths and English

  • Enhanced DBS check
  • Self‑declaration of criminal record and safeguarding information
  • Online searches may be carried out as part of safer recruitment
  • Must not be barred from regulated activity

Person Specification

Essential

  • Experience working with children aged 4–11
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • Understanding of safeguarding and equal opportunities
  • Ability to lead a team and create a safe, stimulating environment
  • Administrative competence and IT skills

Desirable

  • Level 3 childcare qualification
  • 2+ years’ experience in childcare
  • Experience in play‑based settings
  • Budgeting or financial management experience
  • Paediatric First Aid
  • Food Hygiene Certificate
  • Full UK driving licence
