Food Technician

Job Description

Zest Education are currently recruiting for a reliable and organised Food Technician to join a busy secondary school in the Old Oscott area. This is a temporary position starting immediately and continuing until further notice.

This role is ideal for an experienced Food Technician or a candidate with transferable skills from catering, hospitality, food preparation, laboratory, or educational support environments.

The Role

As a Food Technician, you will play a key role in supporting the Food Technology Department by preparing ingredients, maintaining equipment, and ensuring practical lessons run smoothly and safely.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparing ingredients, materials, and equipment for Food Technology lessons.
  • Supporting teachers during practical food sessions.
  • Maintaining a clean, organised, and safe food preparation environment.
  • Monitoring and managing stock levels of ingredients and equipment.
  • Ordering supplies as required.
  • Cleaning and maintaining kitchen equipment and workstations.
  • Ensuring compliance with food hygiene and health and safety regulations.
  • Assisting with displays, events, and curriculum activities within the department.
  • Managing storage areas and ensuring ingredients are correctly labelled and rotated.

Requirements

Essential:

  • Previous experience as a Food Technician in a school setting or experience with transferable skills from catering, hospitality, food production, or a similar environment.
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Knowledge of food hygiene and kitchen safety procedures.

Desirable:

  • Experience working within a secondary school.
  • Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2 or above).
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety requirements within Food Technology departments.
  • Experience supporting practical learning environments.

Salary is dependent on experience, training, or qualifications.
