Nursery Teaching Assistant

Job Description

A vibrant primary setting in Balsall Heath is seeking a Nursery Teaching Assistant who brings energy, resilience, and a hands‑on approach to Early Years. The environment is fast‑paced, lively, and full of personality, and the team needs someone who isn’t afraid to get fully involved from day one. This role suits someone who thrives on challenge, stays calm under pressure, and genuinely enjoys being part of a busy, joyful nursery classroom.

What the role involves

  • Supporting the class teacher with routines, activities, and the day‑to‑day running of the nursery.
  • Getting fully involved in play‑based learning, from messy play to outdoor exploration.
  • Working with small groups and individual children to develop early communication, social skills, and confidence.
  • Helping children regulate emotions, navigate friendships, and settle into structured routines.
  • Assisting with observations and contributing to assessments where appropriate.
  • Providing personal care and supporting children with transitions throughout the day.
  • Creating a warm, safe, and stimulating environment where every child feels valued.

What makes a strong candidate

  • Experience in Early Years or a nursery setting.
  • A gritty, proactive attitude and the confidence to jump straight into busy classroom life.
  • Patience, warmth, and the ability to stay positive even on challenging days.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work closely with the class teacher and wider team.
  • A good understanding of the EYFS and child development.
  • A commitment to inclusive practice and supporting children with a range of needs.
