Job Description

Zest Education is currently recruiting for a dedicated and nurturing SEND Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Swadlincote from September. This is a full-time, ongoing position supporting pupils within the school’s SEND provision.

The provision caters for children of mixed primary ages, creating a varied and rewarding role where no two days are the same. The school is looking for a committed individual who can provide the consistency, encouragement, and support that pupils need to thrive both academically and emotionally.

About the Role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work as part of a supportive team within the school’s specialist provision, helping pupils access learning in a structured and positive environment. The children benefit from familiar routines, strong relationships, and consistent support from staff, making reliability and commitment key qualities for this role.

This position would suit candidates with experience in SEND, learning support, care work, youth work, or primary education who are passionate about making a meaningful difference in children’s lives.

  • Work with children of mixed primary school ages within the SEND provision.
  • Help create a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Encourage positive behaviour, confidence, and independence.
  • Adapt activities and resources to meet individual pupil needs.
  • Build strong and trusting relationships with pupils and staff.
  • Support pupils with both academic and social development.
  • Work closely with teachers and SEND staff to deliver targeted interventions and support.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful applicant will:

  • Have experience working with children or young people, ideally within an educational or SEND setting.
  • Be patient, caring, and resilient.
  • Understand the importance of routine and consistency for children with additional needs.
  • Be able to build positive relationships and maintain professional boundaries.
  • Have excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Be committed to providing long-term support and continuity for pupils.
  • Hold a relevant Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable but not essential).
